At MOWMC, we’re inspired by organizations that share our passion for serving our community, especially our veterans. Recently, we had the honor of hosting Marlene Summers, the founder of Grammy’s Cookie Convoy, as a guest speaker at our employee meeting. Her story and mission left us all in awe and reinforced our commitment to serving those who have served our nation.
A Sweet Mission
Grammy’s Cookie Convoy, much like our organization, has a heartwarming mission. Since 2002, they’ve sent a taste of home to our brave service members deployed overseas. Their goal? To let our heroes know that we honor their commitment and appreciate their unselfish sacrifice.
More Than Just Cookies
What started as a grassroots effort has grown into a significant operation. Each shipment from Grammy’s Cookie Convoy includes:
– 10,000 gourmet chocolate chip cookies
– An equal number of handwritten notes from volunteers across the nation
These “Grammy’s Chocolate Chip Hugs” represent more than just a sweet treat. They’re a tangible reminder of home and the gratitude of a nation.
Impressive Impact
Since its inception, Grammy’s Cookie Convoy has achieved remarkable milestones:
– Over 346,618 cookies shipped to service members overseas
– 1,302 volunteers involved
Serving Veterans: A Shared Mission
At Meals on Wheels Montgomery County, we share Grammy’s Cookie Convoy’s dedication to serving our veterans. While they send cookies overseas, we ensure our local veterans receive nutritious meals and companionship. Both organizations understand the importance of showing appreciation for those who have sacrificed so much for our country.
How You Can Help
Inspired by Grammy’s Cookie Convoy’s efforts? Here’s how you can support both our missions:
- Volunteer your time
- Donate to support our programs
- Spread the word about our organizations on social media
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our veterans and service members, one meal – or cookie – at a time.
