In Montgomery County, our Meals on Wheels program (MOWMC) is about more than just delivering nutritious food to homebound seniors. We’re committed to enhancing the quality of life for our clients through companionship and enrichment. One shining example of this commitment is our Mobile Book Cart/Club, a heartwarming initiative spearheaded by our dedicated employee, Dianna.
How Our Mobile Book Club Works
The process is beautifully simple. When our seniors are ready for their next literary adventure, they complete a request form and hand it to their meal delivery volunteer. Our collection spans a wide range of genres to suit every taste:
- Mysteries that keep you guessing
- Inspiring biographies
- Classic westerns
- Thrilling page-turners
- And much more!
What makes this program special is its flexibility. Clients can either keep the books they love or return them with their next request form. And the best part? There are absolutely no late fees! This pressure-free approach ensures our seniors can enjoy reading at their own pace.
Nourishing Body and Mind
At MOWMC, we understand that wellness encompasses more than physical health. While our meal deliveries address nutritional needs and food insecurity, our book program feeds the mind and spirit. For many clients who face limited mobility and social isolation, books offer windows to new worlds and connections to characters and ideas.
This initiative perfectly aligns with our mission to provide meals, transportation, and meaningful human connection. Just as our daily meal deliveries include a friendly smile and safety check, our book program offers another touchpoint of engagement and care.
As we continue to serve over 1,000 homebound seniors in Montgomery County, we’re constantly looking for innovative ways to bring joy into their lives. Because sometimes, a good book can nourish the soul as much as a warm meal.
